FUE hair transplant extracts loss-resistant follicles from the donor area and places them one by one into thinning zones. Sapphire blades reduce tissue trauma; the aim is a natural hairline and density matched to your donor. Crusting clears in days, permanent growth over months. Suitability is assessed at examination.

Procedure Overview

FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) hair transplantation is a modern restoration technique that restores natural and dense hair to those suffering from hair loss. At our clinic, we take the standard FUE method a step further by using the 'Sapphire FUE' technique. In this method, channels are opened using blades made from precious sapphire ore instead of metal scalpels. Sapphire blades allow for opening much denser and smoother channels, minimizing tissue trauma, accelerating healing, and ensuring that the transplanted hair grows at the exact natural angle. By achieving a high graft count, we do not just cover bald areas; we design a dense, natural frontal hairline. With this scarless technique, your surgery is rarely noticeable once your hair grows out.

“A natural hairline and density matched to your donor area are the foundation of a permanent, natural-looking result.”

— Op. Dr. Hüseyin Arslan

Risks & Candidacy

Possible risks

FUE hair transplant is generally well tolerated; redness, crusting and mild swelling are expected in the first days. Less commonly, folliculitis, temporary shedding of existing hair (shock loss) or infection can occur. Permanent growth appears over months, and donor capacity is limited.

Who may not be a candidate

Suitable candidates usually have an adequate donor area with stable loss and realistic expectations. Active scalp disease, insufficient donor supply, uncontrolled chronic illness or rapidly progressing loss at a very young age may affect suitability. Suitability is determined at examination and donor assessment.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will I feel pain?
It is completely painless with local anesthesia.
When does it grow?
Starts at month 3, completes at 1 year.
I'm travelling from abroad — how many days should I stay in Istanbul for a hair transplant?
A stay of 3-4 days is generally recommended for FUE. The operation day and the next-day first check-up are mandatory; after that you can depart with aftercare instructions. For patients from further countries, an online pre-assessment using photos and scalp analysis is available.
How do you decide how many grafts to transplant?
Graft count is determined at examination based on the degree of hair loss, donor-area density, and recipient-area size. Maximum density is planned without exceeding donor capacity — this balance is critical for a permanent result. Quoting a number without examination would be inaccurate as individual variation is significant.
What is the difference between FUE and DHI, and which is right for me?
In FUE, follicles are extracted, channels are opened first, then grafts placed; in DHI a Choi pen opens the channel and places the graft simultaneously. DHI can offer an advantage for dense packing between existing hair and narrow zones; FUE covers larger open areas more efficiently. The appropriate technique is selected at examination based on donor characteristics and the target area.
When does normal appearance begin after a hair transplant?
Transplanted hairs may shed in weeks 2-4 (shock loss) — this is normal. New growth begins around months 3-4, and final density settles between months 8-12. The first year is an active recovery period requiring patience; the full result is evaluated at 12-18 months.
Is a hair transplant permanent — will the transplanted hairs fall out again?
Donor follicles harvested from the occipital zone are genetically resistant to shedding; this trait is preserved after transplantation. The FUE-transplanted hairs are therefore permanent. However, your non-transplanted native hairs may continue to thin due to DHT; additional sessions may be needed and we assess this together over time.

Recovery

Scabbing resolves within 10 days. Transplanted hair starts growing from month 3, full results seen at 1 year.
