Swelling and bruising are expected in the first weeks; less commonly bleeding, infection, graft issues or not fully reaching the desired result can occur. Recovery may take longer than after primary surgery.
Who may not be a candidate
Candidates are usually evaluated at least 6-12 months after the previous operation, with healed tissues and realistic expectations. Heavy scarring, insufficient cartilage donor or uncontrolled health problems may affect the plan. The exact approach is set through examination and details of the prior surgery.
