Revision rhinoplasty reassesses shape, support or breathing concerns that remain after previous nose surgery. A new operation should not be decided from photographs alone: the prior procedure, healing time, available cartilage support, skin and scar tissue, septum and airway are assessed together.
Shape, support and airway
The bridge, tip support, symmetry, septum, internal and external nasal valves and breathing symptoms are examined together.
Grafts are case-specific
Ear or rib cartilage may be considered when septal cartilage is insufficient; a graft or rib cartilage is not required in every revision case.
Limits and follow-up
Scar tissue and altered anatomy affect what may be achievable. Goals, limitations, risks and the follow-up plan should be discussed before surgery is chosen.

Possible risks
Revision rhinoplasty is more complex than primary surgery and demands more experience; scar tissue and limited cartilage can make it harder. Swelling and bruising are expected in the first weeks; less commonly bleeding, infection, graft issues or not fully reaching the desired result can occur. Recovery may take longer than after primary surgery.
Who may not be a candidate
Candidates are usually evaluated at least 6-12 months after the previous operation, with healed tissues and realistic expectations. Heavy scarring, insufficient cartilage donor or uncontrolled health problems may affect the plan. The exact approach is set through examination and details of the prior surgery.

Is rib cartilage necessary?
Not in every revision. If septal cartilage is insufficient, ear or rib cartilage may be considered according to the examination findings.

How long should I wait after my first surgery before a revision?

I am travelling from abroad. How many days should I stay in Istanbul?
There is no standard stay that is safe for every revision patient. Keep travel and accommodation flexible until an individual follow-up schedule is confirmed after examination.
Can an evaluation be done online before I arrive?
Yes, a preliminary assessment can be made from facial and nasal photographs taken at different angles, along with any reports from your previous surgery. This consultation helps outline a plan, but the final surgical decision is made only after an in-person examination and physical assessment.
When can I fly after the surgery?
There is no single safe flight day after revision surgery. Your surgeon should consider the work performed, bleeding and swelling, splints, breathing, early examination findings, personal risks and flight duration before advising travel. Do not rely on a fixed return date without an in-person follow-up plan.
Is there an age limit for revision, and are the results permanent?
Candidacy is based on general health, nasal development, previous operations, tissue quality and realistic goals rather than age alone. Surgical changes may be long-lasting, but healing, scar behaviour and natural ageing vary, so no individual result can be guaranteed.
Recovery
Recovery varies with the previous operations, the work required and scar tissue. Early swelling settles over weeks, while tissue and tip refinement may continue for months. Your follow-up schedule is set for the individual surgical plan.
