Functional Rhinoplasty & Septoplasty in Turkey

Septoplasty addresses an obstructing septum. Functional rhinoplasty may also address nasal valves or external support when examination shows a wider structural cause of obstruction.

Defined Follow-up

Septoplasty is functional nasal surgery intended to correct a septal deviation linked to symptoms. An ENT assessment distinguishes septal obstruction from nasal valve narrowing, enlarged turbinates, allergy and other causes. Surgery does not guarantee complete relief; any planned aesthetic change is assessed separately as septorhinoplasty.

Procedure Overview

Septoplasty is functional surgery intended to correct a septal deviation linked to nasal obstruction. A deviation seen on examination does not prove that it is the only cause: nasal valve narrowing, enlarged turbinates, allergy and other conditions are assessed as well. When the obstruction also involves the nasal valves or external structural support, a wider functional rhinoplasty or septorhinoplasty may be considered. The scope is based on symptoms and examination, not a standard package. No operation can guarantee complete relief of breathing symptoms. Any planned external shape change is discussed and consented to separately.

“Septoplasty is primarily a breathing operation; we straighten the deviated septum to open the airway and improve quality of life.”

How It Works?

1

Airway Assessment

Symptoms, the septum, turbinates, nasal valves, external support and possible mucosal causes are assessed together.

2

Scope Decision

Findings determine whether septoplasty alone or a wider functional rhinoplasty or septorhinoplasty should be discussed.

3

Individual Follow-up

Splints or packing, reviews, activity and travel timing are set according to the operation and healing.

Risks & Candidacy

Possible risks

A blocked feeling and crusting can follow septoplasty. Possible risks include bleeding, infection, septal perforation, adhesions, altered smell or sensation, a change in nasal shape, persistent obstruction and revision surgery. Septoplasty alone and combined septorhinoplasty do not have the same incision or risk profile.

Who may not be a candidate

Seeing a deviated septum on examination is not enough by itself; its relationship to symptoms and other causes such as nasal valve narrowing, enlarged turbinates or allergy are assessed together. Medical and surgical options are compared after an ENT examination.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between septoplasty and functional rhinoplasty?
Septoplasty focuses on the internal septum. Functional rhinoplasty may also address nasal valves or external structural support when examination shows that the obstruction is wider than the septum alone.
Will surgery guarantee better breathing?
No. Surgery may improve symptoms in appropriately selected patients, but allergy, mucosal disease, valve problems, healing and other factors can affect the result.
Are splints or packing always used?
No. Internal support is selected for the operation performed. If it is used, removal, review and travel timing are planned individually.
I'm travelling to Istanbul for septoplasty. How many days should I stay?
There is no fixed stay for every patient. Examination, procedure scope, splint or packing plan, first review and fitness to fly are considered together. Book the return journey after your individual follow-up schedule has been confirmed.
When can I fly after the surgery?
Fitness to fly varies with technique, bleeding risk, splints or packing, combined procedures and healing at review. A fixed day cannot be considered safe for everyone; plan the return flight after an in-person check and surgeon approval.
Is septoplasty performed under local or general anaesthesia?
Septoplasty is most often performed under general anaesthesia, although local anaesthesia with sedation may be an option for limited deviations. The anaesthesia method is decided jointly by the surgeon and anaesthesiologist according to the degree of deviation, any combined procedures, and your overall health.
Can septoplasty be combined with rhinoplasty or turbinate surgery in the same session?
Septoplasty may be planned with rhinoplasty or turbinate surgery when each step has a separate indication, but combining procedures is not automatically better, safer or faster to recover from. The need, total anaesthetic and risk burden are assessed for each step. Allergic or mucosal obstruction is not automatically corrected by surgery and may require medical treatment.
Is an online evaluation possible before I come to Turkey?
An online preliminary discussion can review photographs and existing reports, but it cannot replace an internal nasal examination or endoscopy when indicated. CT is not routine for every patient and is considered only for a clinical reason. Diagnosis, procedural scope and follow-up planning are confirmed in person.

Recovery

Blocked sensation, crusting, discharge and discomfort can occur. Whether splints or packing are needed, when they are removed, the review schedule, activity limits and travel timing are planned individually. Bleeding, infection, septal perforation, adhesions, shape change or persistent obstruction may require further treatment.
