A wider than normal angle between the ears and the skull causes a "prominent ear" appearance. This condition can lead to psychological problems, especially in school-aged children.
When Should It Be Done?
Ear development is 90% complete by age 6. Therefore, it is recommended before starting primary school for the child's social development. However, it can be safely performed at any age in adults.
Surgical Technique
Cartilage tissue is accessed through an incision behind the ear. Permanent sutures are used to create the necessary folds in the cartilage and pin the ear back. The scar is invisible as it remains behind the ear.
