How is otoplasty planned?

Otoplasty evaluates the ear folds, the angle between the ear and the head, and differences between both ears as one surgical plan. The aim is not to create a standardised ear, but to achieve a natural position that remains proportionate to the face and head. The incision is commonly placed in the natural crease behind the ear; the exact cartilage-shaping technique is selected after examination. Suitability, anaesthesia and the expected degree of change can only be confirmed after an in-person assessment.

How It Works?

1

Examination and measurements

Folds, projection, asymmetry, skin and cartilage are assessed together.

2

Surgical planning

Cartilage shaping and fixation are selected for the individual anatomy.

3

Protection and follow-up

Dressings, a protective headband and review dates are planned by the surgeon.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does otoplasty make the ears smaller?
Not necessarily. Most plans focus on recreating folds and adjusting projection. Ear reduction is considered separately only when the anatomy requires it.
Where is the incision?
It is commonly planned within the natural crease behind the ear. Individual anatomy may require a different approach.
Will both ears be perfectly identical?
Natural ears have small differences. Surgery aims for better balance, but perfect symmetry cannot be promised.
How long should an international patient stay in Istanbul?
The stay depends on the technique and first-review schedule. A photo-based pre-assessment can guide planning; the final plan is confirmed in person.

Dressings and swelling can be expected during the first days. Pressure on the ears should be avoided, the recommended protective band should be used for the advised period, and review appointments should be followed. Return to work, school, exercise and flying varies with the technique and individual healing; a precise schedule is given after assessment.
